North Leeward has waited a quarter of a century for meaningful development. For 25 years, this government has been in power, and for nearly five years, Minister James has been entrusted with the tourism portfolio. Yet, no hotel, no resort, no serious investment has been delivered to a constituency with breathtaking beauty and untapped potential.
Then, suddenly, only days after Dr. Kishore Shallow announced his intention to bring a hotel to the area, Minister James miraculously discovers plans of his own. This is not leadership. This is mimicry, and worse, it is dishonesty. It is the kind of cheap political facade designed to hoodwink voters in an election season.
Speaking to an energised crowd in Fitz Hughes on September 11, Dr. Shallow laid the facts bare that North Leeward is a tourism paradise. He charged that the absence of a hotel in this part of the country is a direct result of the ULP government’s neglect and failure. Dr. Shallow pledged that once the NDP is elected, this will be corrected, and North Leeward will finally have a hotel, which will create jobs and opportunities, while stimulating the economy.
But Shallow did not stop there. He unveiled a transformative policy vision, the conversion of Cumberland into a green, environmentally friendly city, part of a wider rural development plan already championed by the NDP. These are not empty promises; they are the product of long-term thinking and genuine commitment.
Contrast this with Minister James, who only finds his tongue when the opposition speaks. It is not the first time he has tried to ride Shallow’s coattails. Not long ago, he and the Prime Minister staged a cricket festival fashioned after the VPL, a tournament that was entirely Dr. Shallow’s brainchild. Again and again, James has shown he is not a leader with ideas, but a follower grasping for relevance.
The people of North Leeward are not fools. They know the difference between genuine vision and political gimmickry. They know the difference between a promise born of desperation and a plan rooted in substance. Minister James’ “hotel announcement” is nothing more than a cynical performance, a facade erected in panic, not in planning.
North Leeward deserves better! It deserves honesty, vision, and real results. It deserves Dr. Kishore Shallow and the NDP’s commitment, not James and ULP’s empty promises and deception.
