“North Leeward is a mixed developmental community.” Those were the words used to describe the area by Hon. Israel Bruce. He asked the people to recognize the opportunities that can be theirs, as they are a community that has potential for fishing and agriculture. He spoke on the four promises of the NDP and three of these being imbedded in North Leeward that can be beneficial to them; Agriculture, the Blue Economy and Tourism.
Speaking on ULP Candidate Carlos James, Mr. Bruce asked the people of North Leeward to recall the last time they saw cruise ships stop to admire the tourism in the community. He also stated, “Never should you forget, and never should you forgive” as he reminded them of the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano and the requirements for being vaccinated before they were allowed into shelters – a time when they were in their most perilous moments. With Minister James being the Minister of Tourism, Bruce argued that the people of North Leeward still have no sensible tourism product to brag about.
He continued, by focusing on the farmers’ loss of lands in the area for the purposes of a quarry. “They are now producing agricultural produce on the land that they chase bonafide North Leeward Farmers from,” this he said must be paid for at the polls. When voting the strokes of making the X, must reflect the forced vaccination when lives were in trouble, and the loss of the lands to foreigners.
