Basseterre, St. Kitts — October 25, 2025:
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has successfully coordinated the evacuation of nationals studying in Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa intensifies and threatens the region.
A chartered flight carrying twenty-seven (27) students departed Kingston on Saturday evening, bound for Turks and Caicos before continuing to St. Kitts on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew said the swift action reflects the Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all nationals abroad.
> “The safety of our citizens, wherever they are, remains our top priority. We will continue to do everything within our means to protect and support them during this time,” said Prime Minister Drew.
Arrangements have also been made for students who chose to remain in Jamaica. In collaboration with the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the St. Kitts and Nevis Student Association (SKNSA), these students are being housed in a designated hotel that meets safety and emergency standards. UWI has also confirmed that official shelters remain open and ready if additional precautions become necessary.
The Government continues to monitor conditions in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, maintaining communication with regional partners and CARICOM institutions. Nationals in affected territories are advised to remain alert, adhere to local advisories, and stay in contact with their embassies.
