Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Godwin Friday, has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at easing the cost of living and improving opportunities for Vincentians. The announcement was made during an interview on Hot 97 FM, as part of the party’s campaign promises ahead of the November 27th, 2025 general elections.
Dr. Friday outlined four key measures that the NDP intends to implement once elected:
1. VAT-Free Shopping Days – On the first Monday of August and December, Vincentians would enjoy VAT-free shopping to help reduce the burden of rising living costs.
2. $500 Grant for New Mothers and Extended Maternity Leave – Aimed at supporting families and ensuring the best start in life for the next generation, new mothers would receive a one-time $500 grant alongside longer maternity leave benefits.
3. Public Servant Car Concession – Public officers who have served for ten years or more would benefit from reduced import duties on vehicles as a reward for their dedication and service to the country.
4. Duty-Free Digital Equipment Imports – To encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, individuals starting new businesses would be able to import digital and technological equipment duty-free.
Dr. Friday emphasized that these initiatives reflect the NDP’s commitment to helping working families, empowering entrepreneurs, and rewarding public servants.
The NDP leader and his team are seeking to unseat Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP), which has been in office for 24 years and is seeking a sixth consecutive term in the upcoming polls.
