Kingstown, St. Vincent, April 2026 – At the launch of Vincy Mas 2026, themed “The Great Escape,” Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), Mr. Ricardo Adams, delivered a message of gratitude and pride as the nation looks ahead to the festival’s 50th anniversary in 2027.
Mr. Adams emphasized that the festival is more than a calendar event; it is a living expression of Vincentian identity. “For 50 years, this shift has shaped our identity, elevated our cultural expression, and positioned Vincy Mas as one of the most authentic and energy-filled carnivals in the Caribbean,” he said.
Initially, Carnival was one day, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The transformation of Carnival from a pre-Lenten religious observance into the modern June-July festival known as Vincy Mas was driven by cultural change, economic ambition, and institutional development. What began as a colonial farewell to Lent evolved through the influence of freed slaves and the working class into a vibrant national celebration centered on music, costume, and tourism, now recognized as one of the country’s most significant cultural and economic events
Mr. Adams extended heartfelt thanks to the government, sponsors, cultural components, stakeholders, and every individual who contributes to the success of the festival. “Your dedication and passion keep this festival alive and thriving,” Adams noted, emphasizing the collective responsibility to nurture and protect Vincy Mas for future generations.
