On October 27th we will be celebrating 39 years of independence. Many may question how independent we are but we have accomplished a great deal over the years and we must be thankful. The Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines is working apace to have a hotel constructed in close proximity to the Argyle International Airport. Word on this came from Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves Tuesday afternoon at a briefing at Cabinet Room. Dr. Gonsalves said the facility is to be an airport hotel at Diamond in the area near the approach to the corner to Kings Hill and it will consist of about 90 rooms. A ceremony for the rededication of the St Vincent Electricity Services’ (Vinlec) upgraded power plant at South Rivers is scheduled for the afternoon of this Friday 19th October. Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said Tuesday afternoon that his government and the state-owned power company spent $20 million improving the two hydro units at the plant. The South Rivers power plant was damaged during the 2013 flood caused by the passage of a weather system on Christmas Eve. The Cumberland hydro plant was also extensively damaged during the flood.
Commissioner of Police Colin John says he would not be commenting further on the matter of the sexual assault allegation made against him by a female police officer. John categorically denied the allegation when contacted by the newspapers last week.
