About a week ago, public servants were notified of a new policy requiring them to be vaccinated or be tested twice monthly. Many have condemned this seemingly discriminatory and oppressive policy while many more have understandably remained silent lest they be victimized, targeted or otherwise disadvantaged for openly denouncing the policy. Certainly, there are those who criticize the policy privately. This is an unfortunate and undeniable reality in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Yet, many ULP zealots and devotees deny that such is the reality while others concede but seek to justify it by stating that this was the reality…

(CNN)He said he’d take the Covid-19 vaccine first, as a role model for the rest of Argentina. A little over two months after receiving the Russian-made Sputnik V, Argentinian President Alberto Fernández has tested positive for the coronavirus. In a series of tweets posted Friday evening — his birthday — the Argentinian President said a fever and slight headache had prompted him to get tested. “I’m already isolated, complying with the current protocol and following the instructions of my personal doctor,” he said. “I have contacted the people I met in the last 48 hours to assess whether they constitute…

A voice note that emerged on social media on Monday, with what appears to be the voice of a prominent medical doctor using abusive language against some Vincentians, is causing an outcry. In the voice note which is 2 minutes and 19 seconds long, the doctor, in an anti-Covid-19 vaccine rant called people from the countryside of St. Vincent “dunce,” “backward,” “niggas,” and “Country Bookies,” a term used to demean persons from the countryside of St. Vincent. In the voice note, the doctor decried the government’s Covid-19 vaccination program saying that the vaccine is “bullshit” and “it ain’t doing nothing…

Prime Minister Gonsalves declared with a 70% vaccinated population we would be able to party and unlatch our reservations; a worthy bribe according to some. However, only 10 percent of the population have been vaccinated. Despite this low vaccination number the Easter weekend appears to have a semblance of normalcy. Churches held their Good Friday services with commendable turn outs, impromptu events and picnics were held across the mainland and hundreds of Vincentians travelled to the Grenadine island of Bequia. Is it coincidence that all of these outdoor activities are taking place while the Brewery and Corea’s are promoting their…

We are between a rock and a hard place. There is no way to turn for relief. The service offered by Cable and Wireless (FLOW) and Digicel is horribly, inadequate and inefficient. We are forced to contend with a case of 6 of one, half a dozen of the next. We must find a solution. Plain Talk had long hoped that the government, through the Attorney General, would take these companies to court to seek redress on behalf of our people and country. But alas, this seems unlikely. Camillo Gonsalves, the Minister of Telecommunications is on record as saying that…
