Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says he does not have the legal authority to postpone elections, due later this year. Effective tomorrow, February 10, the island-wide curfew will commence at 8 p.m and end at 5 a.m, daily. This new curfew will be in effect until February 24, 2021. The announcement was made in Parliament a short while ago. Public gatherings have also been reduced from 15 to 10 people. “If we don’t act now, we could overwhelm the health system,” Holness said. Jamaica has recorded its highest number of COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period, with 403 cases recorded from 1,935 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Jamaica on Monday recorded one more COVID-19 fatality, pushing the total to 359. The deceased is an 84-year-old male from Kingston and St Andrew. She died at Harrison Point where she had been a patient for 3 days, following a positive PCR test result. The Roads, Buildings and General Services Authority (BRAGSA) has completed renovation work on the Belmont Observatory Station.The project saw the repair of two structures, the living quarters for the scientists and the monitoring station.Work included tiling, plumbing and carpentry.BRAGSA also painted the buildings.The project was done over a two weeks period.
