British Airways will now fly to Antigua and Barbuda, from Heathrow/Gatwick International Airports, twice per week due to the coronavirus lockdown imposed in the United Kingdom. The Antiguan government disclosed that the flight will not proceed to any other island. The cabinet notes said this decision is a clear indication that Antigua is “a highly-favoured destination.” The notes added that Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez indicated to Cabinet that Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism is continuing to recover and the number of arrivals will eventually return to 2019 levels in the near future.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines today confirmed forty-eight (48) new COVID-19 cases. Four of the cases arrived with negative PCR results and tested positive on entry screening. All of the other forty-four cases are nationals with no history of recent travel. These cases were detected during contact tracing, testing of persons with flu-like symptoms and exit screening. Police have arrested and charged Bally Alexander, 19 years old labourer of Victoria Village with aggravated burglary on 13.01.21. According to investigations, between 5:20 p.m. on 09.01.21 and 12:03 a.m. on 10.01.21, the accused allegedly entered the dwelling house of a 48 year old Aviation Officer of Calder as a trespasser with a gun to commit the offence of burglary. The accused man is expected to appear before the Court to answer to the charge.
The Roads, Buildings and General Services Authority (BRAGSA) has completed the construction of a new concrete road in Sharpes, Central Kingstown. The project saw the construction of a 257 feet roadwayin a section of the community called “The Rocks”. A 130 feet long footpath was also constructed, along with Slipper and Swale drains. In addition, BRAGSA built a 469 feet long retaining wall. The project was carried out a cost of 142,000. It was done over a ten weeks period.

On January 14, 2021 the Ministry of Health received confirmation of twelve new cases of COVID-19. This brings the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 502. Eleven of the cases are Saint Lucian nationals ranging in age from 1 year to 73 years. They are from the Castries, Babonneau and Gros-Islet districts. These individuals were seen at a community respiratory clinic, where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19.
