A University of the West Indies (UWI) graduand, who prefers to remain anonymous, has raised concern over a decision by the university to host a virtual graduation ceremony this month, thereby reversing an earlier decision by survey to host the ceremony in the traditional face to face format. The graduand said that earlier this year the UWI conducted a survey to determine the preferred choice of graduation format and the majority selected the traditional face to face ceremony. “Surprisingly, a town hall meeting was held on the 13th of November to inform us that the graduation will be a virtual…
The Vatican has launched an investigation into how Pope Francis’ official Instagram account “liked” a sexy photo of a bare-bottomed Brazilian model, according to a report. Sources told Catholic News Agency that an internal probe is underway into the act involving Natalia Garibotto’s Instagram pic of her dressed in a racy schoolgirl uniform. News reports surfaced on Nov. 13 that Francis’ verified account “liked” the post but it was then removed on Nov. 14 — after CNA asked the Vatican’s press office for comment. Sources told the outlet that the pope’s social media accounts are managed by a team.
Dear Editor, Please allow me a space in your publication to put focus on a matter that not only affects me but many other male students at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. I am still a teenager and therefore I have been educated under what is constantly touted as the “Education Revolution”. It amazes me though that my peers and I, children of the revolution as Hon. Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves would describe us, are still battling with archaic oppressive systems. Systems that are based solely on the personal preferences of education officials, instead of international standards…

GENEVA, Switzerland (AFP) — The World Health Organization warned Friday that growing antimicrobial resistance is every bit as dangerous as the coronavirus pandemic — and threatens to reverse a century of medical progress. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the issue “one of the greatest health threats of our time”. Resistance is when bugs become immune to existing drugs — antibiotic, antiviral or antifungal treatments — rendering minor injuries and common infections potentially deadly. Resistance has grown in recent years due to overuse of such drugs in humans and also in farm animals. “Antimicrobial resistance may not seem as urgent as a…
ZURICH (AP) — Haitian soccer federation president Yves Jean-Bart was banned from the sport for life on Friday following accusations of systematic sexual abuse of female players. The FIFA ethics committee found Jean-Bart guilty of “having abused his position and sexually harassed and abused various female players, including minors”. He was also fined one million Swiss francs (US$1.1 million). Jean-Bart has denied the allegations, which involve national team players. The accusations were first revealed by British newspaper The Guardian in April. The abuse is said to have happened at the country’s national training centre at Croix-des-Bouquets, which FIFA helped fund.…
