Thirty-one-year-old Joel Gary Barker, also known as ‘Bodown’ and ‘Platinum,’ of Penniston was remanded into custody at the prison when he appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday charged with the murder of 23-year-old Kareem Bowens of Union Island.
Bowens received a gunshot to his chest while near a bar in Clifton, Union Island, on October 3rd, 2018. He died shortly after at the hospital on the Southern Grenadine island.
Barker, the suspect, had fled to neighboring Grenada and was apprehended there. He was brought back to this country last week.
Senior Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche said Monday that the investigating officer in the matter had so far recorded 5 statements and he was expecting to record some more in Grenada where investigations had taken him.
The Senior Prosecutor asked Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne for an adjournment of three months to allow the investigation to be completed.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the matter to February 13th, 2019, when the preliminary inquiry is expected to commence.
