Bridgetown, Barbados (March 8, 2019) — Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has appointed veteran journalist Roy R. Morris as her first Press Secretary.

The former Editor-in-Chief at the Nation Publishing Co. Limited and founding Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of Barbados Today will take up the appointment on Monday March 11, 2019.

In announcing the appointment, Prime Minister Mottley said: “I am delighted that Mr. Morris has agreed to serve as Press Secretary. I have taken my time to make this appointment as I believe it is a critical position in communicating our programmes to our people. With his tremendous experience in journalism and media in the private sector, I am confident that he will add value and make a difference as we work to build the best Barbados together as a people.”

Morris, whose journalism career started in 1979, currently teaches a number of journalism courses at the Barbados Community College. He is a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Maryland (College Park).

The veteran journalist has also benefitted from specialized training at the Poynter Institute in Florida and in-service attachments at the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Akron Beacon-Journal and the St Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times). (PR)
