Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says he was always confident that Prime the Government would have won the election petitions filed by New Democratic Party following the General Elections of 2015.
Acting High Court Judge Stanley John last week dismissed the election petitions filed by New Democratic Party candidates Lauron Baptiste and Ben Exeter.
The Petitioners were seeking to have the elections of December 2015 in North Windward and Central Leeward respectively declared void.
The Unity Labour Party, ULP, won the December 2015 General Election by eight votes to seven, to secure a 4th consecutive term in office.
During an interview on the OMG Radio program on BOOM Radio hosted by Dwight “Bing” Joseph, earlier this week Prime Minister Gonsalves said he never expected to lose the petition.
When asked if he at any time thought he would have lost the petitions the Prime Minister Gonsalves said “Never, Never, Never! Because I’ve made it plain as Sir James have made it plain, how are you going to steal an election?”.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves says “The lists are transparent, everybody can check them, you can raise questions, there is a period for registration, you organize people to be registered, the registering is done in broad daylight, you register in accordance to the eligibility to vote”.
He adds “somebody must tell me how you can thief an election in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and what the judge showed is what most people who are objective were talking about, I am not talking about”
Prime Minister Gonsalves says “when the test came for the evidence, the judge showed that (A) their allegations they didn’t have evidence to support by far the overwhelming number of the allegations, they raised no evidence whatsoever, in some cases they wanted to raise things which they didn’t plead”.
