Minister of Finance, Camillo Gonsalves is appealing to local Fisher Folk to start preparing themselves to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities which will be made available for them when, Rainforest Sea Foods begins operations at Calliaqua.
He made this appeal last week while delivering remarks at a ceremony for the signing of an Agreement between the Government and Rainforest Seafoods, the largest supplier of Sea Food in the Caribbean.
Under the agreement, Rainforest Seafoods will be constructing a plant at Calliaqua and they are expected to commence operations over the next 12 to 18 months.
Minister Gonsalves said the fishing sector continues to grow and the current constrain is that fisher men cannot meet the increase in demand.
Minister Gonsalves said when Rainforest Sea Foods begins its operation the demand for fish is going to increase.
He says the Government will be launching a number of capacity building programs for fisher Folk to ensure that they can meet the demand for fish products and sustain their livelihoods.
