Form two students across St. Vincent and the Grenadines are currently participating in the Ministry of Education and Facey Trading National Science Quiz Zonal competitions which will end on April 29th, 2019.
According to Education Officer with responsibility for Science, Juanita Hunte-King, the Quiz is designed to highlight students’ achievements and “can also serve as a platform for teachers to aim for mastery of concepts. Furthermore, the healthy competition will motivate development of research and enquiry in our nation’s youth”. King further stated that students have something to look forward to and that there are very attractive prizes to be won.
Facey Trading, specifically, America Fresh is the major sponsor of the National Science Quiz. General Manager of Facey Trading, Harry Gibson, said his company was happy to partner with the Ministry of Education, to be a part of the launch and to support the science quiz. “We thought it would be a good thing to get involved with the children of St. Vincent and the Grenadines …I approached the manufacturers of America Fresh and they jumped at it immediately”.
Senior Education Officer with responsibility for Curriculum Development, Aldia Gumbs-Dyer, expressed gratitude to all of their partners in the National Science Quiz. Dyer thanked the panel of judges and their various organisations for agreeing to grant the necessary time off. “We are grateful…by planting this seed, I am confident that fruits will be borne on all fronts”, Dyer stated.
The finals of the National Science Quiz will be held on May 13th at the Guides Hut conference room. Prizes for the winners in the Quiz include tablets, smart phones and watches, and book vouchers. The quiz was launched at the Curriculum Development Unit conference room on Tuesday 16th April, 2019.
