A new sporting facility will be built and be ready for use here in St Vincent and the Grenadines by independence day 2020.

This announcement was made by Prime Minister Gonsalves last Saturday night at the launching of “Renewal At 40″ a program of events leading up SVG’s 40th year of independence.

Gonsalves said the government of St Vincent is actively pursuing and is very confident that before independence 2020, there will be at Diamond a track with a football field and a small facility, not the full stadium accommodation, but a track which would give us a Category two installation.

He says the facility will be for every international and regional standard below Olympics.

” you will be able to do your running there and get your records and they will be counted”.

Gonsalves said the Minister of Finance, the Director-General of Finance and Planning along with himself have been able to secure financing to ensure that the facility is part of the renewal at 40.

Isn’t the 2020 Independence 15 months away; AND they are only at the planning stage? With our track record of completing project way beyond the stated timeline. What is being done DIFFERENTLY so that this time line can become realistic? Oh well, an election promise….nothing new…been there done that!!
