Vincentian footballer Kyle Edwards has signed a professional contract with the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros of the United Soccer League (USL).
Kyle is abroad studying at the University of Texas Rio, Grande Valley.
“It’s just a great feeling, you know,” Edwards said. “Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to become a professional soccer player and here I am today. I am very excited. I want to continue to improve and get better at what I do. What I do best is score a lot of goals and I just need to keep doing that.”
Edwards, who earned his second straight nod on the All-WAC First Team, led the Vaqueros this season in goals (7), points (16), and shots (50). His seven goals were the eighth most in the WAC this season and his 16 points ranked him ninth in the WAC.
Edwards will go down as one of the best in the program’s history, wrapping up his career with the Vaqueros with the second most career goals (21) and career points (49) while setting the program record for career shots (114).
Prior to the season, Edwards was named the WAC Preseason Player of the Year while also being named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List. Edwards is also a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region honoree.
