Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors have named a powerful squad packed with international stars, regional standouts and proven T20 performers as they prepare to defend their ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) title next month.

The tournament will be played from July 23 to August 1 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, where the Warriors will be looking to become the first team to successfully defend the championship.

Leading the charge for the home side will be a trio of explosive West Indies batsmen in Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell and Johnson Charles, all of whom bring extensive international and franchise cricket experience to the batting line-up.

The Warriors have also assembled an impressive group of all-rounders, including Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul, Matthew Forde and South African veteran Dwaine Pretorius, giving the team considerable depth with both bat and ball.

In the spin department, the franchise will rely on West Indies left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, Afghanistan star Mohammad Nabi and former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, one of the most successful bowlers in T20 franchise cricket.

Adding further international quality to the squad is New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips, whose versatility has made him one of the most sought-after players in world cricket, while Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Haris is expected to provide an aggressive option at the top of the order.

Trinidad and Tobago wicketkeeper-batsman Amir Jangoo and Guyanese player Quentin Sampson round out the 14-man squad.

The Warriors face a challenging path in their title defence, with matches scheduled against Pakistan’s Lahore Qalandars, the UAE-based Desert Vipers, Australia’s Perth Scorchers XI and United States franchise San Francisco Unicorns.

The tournament is expected to feature some of the biggest names in global T20 cricket and provide local fans with an opportunity to watch world-class players compete in Guyana.

With a balanced squad combining power hitters, experienced campaigners and emerging talent, the Amazon Warriors will once again enter the competition among the favourites as they pursue back-to-back Global Super League titles on home soil.
