Prime Minister Gaston Browne has dismissed a meeting of CARICOM as “ceremonial,” defending his decision not to attend.

The meeting was held on Friday morning via zoom, an online meeting platform.

Prime Minister Browne was notably absent.

Asked whether he boycotted the meeting the prime minister told his radio programme “there was nothing to discuss.”

He said there was no need to attend the meeting where people would seek to “lecture me on LIAT.”

During the Twentieth Special Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, (CARICOM), which was held virtually, due to covid-19, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley demitted chairmanship of the Caribbean Community to Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
