In November 2020, Vincentian Tamira Browne was one of four Toastmasters to be conferred the revered designation and status of Distinguished Toastmaster by Toastmasters International. The other awardees were Melinda Lloyd and Jeffrey Azan from Kingston, Jamaica and Jefferson Charles from Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Ms. Browne, a member of the Imperial Champions Toastmasters Club accomplished this significant milestone by completing 41 speech projects, serving her club and community in various leadership capacities, and mentoring scores of persons for the improvement of their communication and leadership skills.
In her tenure as a Toastmaster, Distinguished Toastmaster Tamira Browne served as the President of Imperial Champions Toastmasters Club from December 2013 to June 2014 and also served in other capacities such as Vice President Education and Sergeant-at-Arms. She also successfully completed her term as Area Director for the year, 2019-2020.
The effective leadership skills of Ms. Browne have been recognized on several occasions as she was awarded as a High Performance Leader by Toastmasters International and recognized as a “Most Valuable Player” across the Americas region – District 81. Most recently, in her tenure as Area Director, she was responsible for all clubs in St. Vincent & the Grenadines and her exemplary work paid off, as her jurisdication was the sole recipient of the highest award of President’s Distinguished Area.
In an interview with DTM Tamira Browne, she shared that she was extremely honored to have achieved the highest accolade achievable by Toastmasters International and expressed gratitude that her many projects and programs over the years have redounded to this success. She said “I am really thankful to each and everyone who has helped me over the years in becoming a better communicator, a better leader, a better human being”.
The Distinguished Toastmaster designation is the greatest honor that a Toastmaster can earn. Achieving Distinguished Toastmaster status involves years of study, dedication, self-discipline, and active participation in the Toastmasters organization.
