After Covid-19 slammed their annual summer basketball training and youth development programme, Playaz rebounded to dominate the hoops in a basketball competition at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex last Saturday.
The Playaz Youth Academy (PYA) participated in the 2020 edition of the Veronica Bishop Inter- Academy Basketball Classichosted by the Blue Chip Basketball Academy (BCBA).
Twelve teams representing four academies – Greiggs All Stars, Mavrix Youth Club, Blue Chip Academy and Playaz Youth Academy – participated in the classics.
The PYA’s two teams ended up facing each other in the semi-finals. The victorious PYA team went on to face-off with the BCBA team in an exciting final.
The end of a PYA-dominated game, the scores were: PYA 15 goals and BCBA 4 goals.
PYA’s president and coach Orlando Fergusson told ANN he believes one hundred percent that his players “are much better than they played” in the competition. He noted that the members of the Playaz teams wanted to have their usual Saturday morning training before the competition started.
The competition started in 2016 and formed part of the annual BCBA’s annual summer camp. Because of the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic and protocols put in place, hosting of the camp was greatly affected.
The BCBA was founded by former national basketball player Kishon Bishop who now resides in the USA.
Meanwhile, PYA president Orlando Fergusson is reaching out to lovers of basketball to contact him or visit the Facebook or Instagram page @ Playaz youth Academy for more information on the development of the PYA.
