Two suspects, who police believe were conspirators in a plot to assassinate the Commissioner of Prisons, were fatally shot this morning during a police exercise.
The suspects have been identified as ANTHONY ST LOUIS, 28, also known as ‘Bago’ and NIAMA ALEXANDER, of Walters Lane, Enterprise, Chaguanas.
Police officers attached to the Central Division were executing a search warrant for firearms and ammunition as part of an investigation into a report of conspiracy to kill the Commissioner of Prisons when they heard noises emanating from the Walters Lane, Enterprise home of the suspects.
When the police officers attempted to gain entrance to the house, they were reportedly greeted with gunfire.
Police officers returned fire following which two persons suffered gunshots injuries about their bodies. During the exchange, it was reported that the woman was used as a human shield by the man.
They were subsequently taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
One firearm along with an extended magazine was found on the scene.
Police also found 620 grams of narcotics at an abandoned house in close proximity to the crime scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
