Merely one day after former national footballer Myron ‘Left Eye’ Samuel began his 18 month jail sentence – with an additional 9 months if he fails to pay the $3500 fine imposed for his handling of 15 rounds of ammo by December – a teenaged mother of two was hauled before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne on yet another unlicensed gun possession charge.
The Barrouallie resident, and first form, high school dropout, was charged for having a shotgun in her illegal custody. However, her circumstances were of such an incredible nature that the Court not only solicited and gained the assistance of a defence attorney.
But the teen mother was also granted $800 bail on her own recognizance.
Whether she was found with the shotgun in her physical possession or the weapon was found in the house she occupies with her children would be just one of the issues to be ironed out during the course of the trial which is set to begin on Monday August 23, barring any adjournments.
She had originally entered a guilty plea but upon discovering her age and the fact the youngster lacked the social support necessary to be able to secure a surety, the prosecution offered no objection when bail was discussed.
The precise ages of her two children are not yet quite clear but Asbert News Network was reliably informed that both offspring were fathered by different men.
A social inquiry, we were reliably informed, would be launched to ascertain her precise situation.
