Approximately 3 months after the last Rugby games were to be hosted, the Invaders Rugby club spectacularly dominated the 2021 SVG Rugby Union club finals.

In the first of several games that were played at the Calliaqua Playing Field on Sunday January 2, 2022, the Invaders B squad triumphed with 36 points over Sharks B who mustered 12. Kaif Westfield and Adrian Sam scored 1 try each, Klyvbert Browne 3 and Rod Laborde 1 while Ajay Delpesche successfully managed 3 conversions.

According to Union officials each try equals 5 points whereas a conversion only carries 2 points.

The try scorers for the Sharks B team were Ciaman Griffith 1 and Kevin Cain who scored a penalty try, which equals 7 points.

Invaders again dominated in game 2 which exclusively featured adult males. They romped home with 33 points to their newest opponents’ – Pirates – 29 points.

The Invaders’ try scorers in that game included Brian Alexander 2, Cyprian Montrope, Jonti Bowens and Dougal James each with 1. Brian Alexander also did four conversions.

Dellon Durrant 3, Raydony Williams 2 and Justin Title contributed 2 conversions for the Pirates final tally.

The final game saw the Invaders B squad again trumping Sharks B – this time by 7 points. Kaif Westfield scored 3 tries, while Ajay Delplesche and Adrian Sam each scored 1. When added to Ajay Delplesche’s 4 conversions the Invaders B team romped home with 33 points.

Kyle Matthews recorded 3 tries including a penalty, Gidroy Theobalds scored another penalty try and Kevin Caine successfully managed 1 conversion for the Sharks B final game.

The SVG Rugby Union postponed its 2021 Finals due to issues relating to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is their current plans, ANN was reliably informed, to host the first 2022 rugby tourney at the “ending of February [or sometime] early March” barring any further disruptions.

Those games would be hosted ahead of the Union’s participation in at least one regionally held competition.
