St. George’s, Grenada – Windwards Super 50 commenced today with clashes Grenada vs. St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) vs. Dominica. The 50 overs tournament is hosted in Grenada from September 29 – October 3.

This is the first senior men’s tournament by the Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB) since the pandemic started in 2020. The last tournament held was in 2019, a 2-day tournament held in SVG and won by Dominica.

WICB President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, expressed his delight with the resumption of the tournament. “Having competitive cricket resume at this level is quite positive. It is important to provide the players the opportunity to represent their countries and showcase their talents. This is what cricket is really about to many of these players, so I am happy that we can give them this platform,” said Dr. Shallow.

WICB Technical Director, Miles Bascombe said “the tournament is timely, as it is part of the preparatory program for the Windwards Volcanoes ahead of the West Indies Super 50 championship next month. I expect players will be trying to capitalize on this outing to both display and sharpen their skills with the selection panel looking on.”

Following the Windwards Super 50, the Steve Mahon-led selection panel will select 26 players to play in a Best vs. Best series. The Windwards Volcanoes team will be selected immediately after to complete their preparation.
