Renowned Grenadian filmmaker Teddy Frederick, known for his award-winning documentary “New Land – The Kalinago Dream,” is set to cast a spotlight on our very own backyard, diving deep into the cannabis industry of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with his upcoming documentary, “Vincy Weed.” The documentary, produced by the non-profit organization Yellow Mountain Spaces, promises to unravel the intricacies and potential of the Vincentian cannabis industry while highlighting the dedication and commitment of local stakeholders, particularly our traditional farmers.
In a recent telephone interview, Frederick shared his enthusiasm and commitment to telling the Vincentian cannabis story accurately and empathetically. “Our goal is to provide an immersive and unbiased view of the cannabis industry in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” he said, stressing the importance of capturing the experiences and stories of our traditional farmers who are integral to the industry’s development. The filmmaker will be returning to St. Vincent in the coming weeks to complete the final stages of the documentary, set for an early 2024 release.
Honorable Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry & Labour, lauded the aspirations of the documentary after an exclusive preview of the “Vincy Weed” trailer. “St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ cannabis industry holds immense promise for our nation. ‘Vincy Weed’ is poised to highlight this industry’s positive dimensions and its stakeholders’ dedication,” he said.
In a bid to support the production of “Vincy Weed,” a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, inviting sponsorship and investments from those eager to see this important narrative come to life. The “Vincy Weed” trailer premiered on Friday, August 18, across various social media platforms, offering a sneak peek into the compelling narratives awaiting viewers.
