Jeremy Alexander, a 42-year-old resident of Queen’s Drive said that he is going ahead with plans to take legal action against members of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) after he said that he was beaten by them for over an hour.
An hour and a half is exactly the length of time that Alexander told ANN that the ordeal lasted.
He explained that he lives and takes care of the property while the owners, who reside overseas are away and that the incident occurred on April 3 at the residence.
The distraught man said that the officers damaged the front gate to the residence, the garage door – they broke in the house and left the place in a mess.
According to Alexander, he was not home when members of the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) commonly referred to as ‘Black Squad’ arrived at his home.
He said that one transport came looking for him and found him hanging out by a bar in Arnos Vale.
The officers ordered him to get into the transport, and when he said that he asked what he was being arrested for, he said that they did not reply.
Alexander said that he got in, and they drove off.
Then he realized that they were taking him to the area where he resided and that when they arrived there, there were four other police transport already there.
It was at this point that Alexander said that they informed him that they had received information that he was holding cocaine and firearms at the house and that there were Spanish nationals there.
An allegation that he denied saying that his only prior arrest was back in 2016 when he was arrested for having in his possession 38 grams of marijuana in his possession – his personal supply the man told ANN.
This visit was the second visit to the property.
Alexander recalled that members of the RRU came to the residence in 2023, but they did not conduct a search or arrest him.
However, this time around, the encounter would not be the same.
The officers never showed a warrant, nor did they identify themselves as police – he said that he recognized one of the men as a member of the RSVGPF.
“At one point, they put my hat over my head and I feel like six, seven ah dem beating me with anything they have in their hand,” the man said.
“Like anything they pick up in the garage by me, they beat me,” Alexander continued.
During the ordeal, he said that they put a piece of plastic over his head and that they tried to throw him over the front porch saying that they would say that he attempted to escape and jumped over himself.
“I swear I was gonna die,” Alexander told ANN.
Following the beating, he said that he could barely move and that he was beaten all over his body.
He works with a well-known videographer in the country and told ANN that he was unable to go to work.
Up to today, Alexander said that he has difficulty eating because of the injuries he sustained.
Following the incident, he said that he made a report to the Public Relations and Complaints Department but added that he intends to take up the matter in the court.
“I cannot leave it like this,” he said.
Especially after he said that they threatened to return and inflict another beating on him.
“Right now, I don’t even feel safe sleeping there because of them,” he said adding that he has not gone back to the house since the incident occurred.
Even other relatives are said to be afraid to go to the house, and according to Alexander, he has not been able to feed his dog.
“Trust me, I wouldn’t feel safe,” he said especially knowing what the officers who beat him were capable of, he said that he did not feel safe.
