As the commencement of construction on the Acute Referral Hospital at Arnos Vale approaches, the quest for suitable land to facilitate the relocation of Pole Yard residents is ongoing.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has confidently stated during a call to WE FM’s Issue At Hand program on Sunday that the residents don’t need to be relocated for the hospital’s construction. He also added that the relocation of residents is being done simultaneously as part of the Government’s overall push for a modern city at Arnos Vale.
The Prime Minister has stated that they have the Chief Surveyor working on identifying lands for the Pole Yard, and they are working on simultaneously building a modern city in the same context. While they may find some lands in West St. George, it’s clear that they will not find all the lands in one place. The Prime Minister’s statement reflects a confident approach towards the government’s efforts to relocate the Pole Yard in the context of building a modern city.
The Acute Referral Hospital is to be constructed at an estimated cost of US$98 million, with more than 80 million going towards the construction of the hospital and purchasing of necessary equipment.
The remainder will be used to strengthen healthcare resilience through a system of reforms across the health sector and project management and consultancy fees.
