Kingstown, December 3, 2024 – The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) is warning the public about a rising scam where fraudsters impersonate legitimate vehicle dealers, leaving victims thousands of dollars poorer and in financial despair.

In a recent breakthrough, police arrested and charged Daislyian Davis, a 36-year-old businessman from Evesham, for allegedly defrauding a 31-year-old cricketer of $52,400 ECC. The incident occurred between July 1 and July 31, 2024, in Kingstown.

Davis, who appeared in the Kingstown Magistrate Court on December 2, pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail of $10,000 ECC with one surety and is now under strict restrictions, including stop notices at all ports of entry and the surrender of all travel documents. The case is set for trial on January 27, 2025.

Police Urge Caution as Scammers Exploit Holiday Season

The RSVGPF is urging citizens, residents, and visitors to exercise heightened vigilance, particularly during the Christmas season, a prime time for scams. To avoid falling victim:

Verify Business Credentials: Confirm the legitimacy of vehicle dealers before conducting transactions.

Investigate Offers: Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true.

Seek Help: Report suspicious activities to the police or consult with trusted advisors.

    Report Scams

If you or someone you know has been targeted by this or similar scams, contact the RSVGPF immediately via:

    Police Emergency: 911/999

    Police Control: (784) 457-1211

Stay vigilant this holiday season and protect your finances from fraudsters.
