Kingstown, St. Vincent, April 9, 2026 – The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) is using next week’s international friendly between the SVG “Lady Heat” and the U.S. Virgin Islands as a springboard to reignite women’s football development across the nation.

Speaking ahead of the April 14th clash, SVGFF President Mr. Otashie Spring revealed that the federation has finalized its female strategic plan and is moving to secure a football development consultant to ensure its implementation. “We strongly believe that with the falling off we had, there’s a need to entice the interest of women playing the game,” Mr. Spring said, underscoring the urgency of rebuilding momentum.

The federation’s immediate focus is on revamping school football programs for girls at both primary and secondary levels. Discussions are underway with the Ministry of Education to establish a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will anchor the initiative. “We want to kick-start with the female school program within the coming weeks. I’m hoping to see activities there from the technical department,” Mr. Spring added.

The SVG “Lady Heat” vs Virgin Islands women’s team international friendly takes place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, Kingstown. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. local time.
