Kingstown, St. Vincent- Electricity customers across St. Vincent and the Grenadines will see higher bills this month as the state‑owned utility VINLEC adjusts its fuel surcharge in response to rising global energy costs.
The company announced that the surcharge applied to April bills has moved to $0.6650 per kilowatt‑hour, up from $0.5490 in March. The change represents an increase of $0.116 per kWh, driven by higher international fuel prices and reduced output from renewable energy sources.
VINLEC emphasized that the surcharge is a “pass‑through” mechanism, meaning the utility does not profit from the adjustment. Instead, it reflects the actual cost of fuel used in electricity generation. The company pointed to ongoing conflict in the Middle East as one of the factors pushing global fuel prices upward.
In its statement, VINLEC reassured customers of its commitment to safe and reliable service but encouraged households and businesses to adopt conservation practices to help offset the impact of higher charges.
