The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation has announced that national coach and Executive member Ramon Johnson has been accepted into the 2026 International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP) at the University of Delaware.
Johnson, who serves as the Federation’s 2nd Vice President, will participate in the globally recognized programme designed to strengthen the capacity of national-level coaches and sport administrators. The initiative focuses on enhancing skills in sport science, talent identification, athlete development, coaching education, and grassroots sport development, while also emphasizing ethical leadership in sport.
The ICECP places strong emphasis on developing participants’ ability not only to train athletes, but also to mentor and educate future coaches within their home countries. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on application, the programme aims to support the long-term growth of sport and promote Olympic values worldwide.
The year-long programme began virtually in April 2026, with Johnson currently completing coursework and examinations online. In September, he will travel to the United States to undertake the programme’s apprenticeship and residency components. The programme is scheduled to conclude in April 2027 in Switzerland, with participants completing approximately 360 hours of training through both virtual and in-person sessions.
Johnson brings a strong academic and professional background to the programme. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sports Science in Cuba and earned his Level One FIBA Referees’ Instructor certification in 2019. He is also a recognized national basketball coach.
The opportunity was facilitated by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee, with funding support provided by Olympic Solidarity.
The Basketball Federation has extended congratulations to Johnson on his achievement, noting that his participation in the programme is expected to significantly contribute to the continued development of basketball in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
