Kingstown, St. Vincent – April 27, 2026: The University of the West Indies (UWI) has recognised former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves for his contributions to regional leadership, scholarship and Caribbean development.
According to a report published by Antigua Newsroom, the recognition highlighted Gonsalves’ longstanding relationship with the regional university as both an alumnus and public figure, as well as his role in advancing issues affecting the Caribbean.
The report noted that Gonsalves, who studied at The UWI before entering public life, has remained closely connected to the institution over the years through academic engagement, lectures, and policy discussions.
UWI also acknowledged his contributions to regional integration and governance, along with his published works on Caribbean politics, history and development.
Gonsalves served as Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 2001 to 2025 and has been one of the region’s most prominent political figures during that period.
The recognition forms part of the university’s continued acknowledgement of Caribbean leaders and graduates whose work has influenced public policy, education and regional advancement.
