Gaston Browne has secured a historic fourth consecutive term in office after leading the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) to a decisive victory in Antigua and Barbuda’s general election.

Preliminary results indicate that the ruling ABLP won 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats, significantly expanding its majority and tightening its hold on government. The main opposition, the United Progressive Party (UPP), managed to secure only one seat, while the Barbuda People’s Movement retained its representation in Barbuda.

The victory marks another major political milestone for Browne, who has led the twin-island nation since 2014 and campaigned heavily on economic stability, tourism recovery, infrastructure expansion, and investment-led growth.

In a statement following the election outcome, the ABLP thanked voters for what it described as continued confidence in the party’s leadership and development agenda.

The election was called nearly two years ahead of the constitutional deadline, with Browne arguing that the country required a renewed mandate amid growing international and economic challenges.

One of the dominant issues during the campaign was the fallout from the United States’ suspension of visa processing for Antiguan and Barbudan nationals earlier this year. Washington raised concerns surrounding the country’s Citizenship by Investment Programme, arguing that loopholes within the system could potentially be exploited by criminal actors seeking access to the United States.

Browne’s administration maintained throughout the campaign that it had already introduced reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and security within the programme while continuing dialogue with U.S. authorities.

Beyond the visa issue, the campaign also focused heavily on economic performance and climate resilience. Browne repeatedly highlighted Antigua and Barbuda’s post-pandemic tourism recovery and ongoing development projects as evidence of the government’s stewardship during challenging global conditions.

International observers monitored the election process, with a second count expected to formally confirm the results.

The outcome further cements Browne’s position as one of the Caribbean’s longest-serving current leaders and reinforces the ABLP’s dominance in Antigua and Barbuda’s modern political landscape.
