Kingstown St. Vincent May 5, 2026 – Major St. Clair Leacock, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, has announced a major restructuring of the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, including the appointment of two Deputy Commissioners of Police and a series of promotions across senior ranks.
Speaking on the planned changes, Leacock said the government had spent the past six months reviewing the operations and leadership structure of the police force before deciding that reforms were necessary.
“So, we have been six months now approaching into the police services in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, we have not made any serious change to the police high command,” he said.
“We have had an opportunity to have a very good look toward the role and the function and in particular over the last few weeks at some of the strategic operations. That time has come for us to make some changes.”
Leacock confirmed that the restructuring would begin at the level of the Deputy Commissioners of Police.
“We’re going to have two deputies in the police force,” he stated.
The minister also announced plans for the appointment of three new Assistant Commissioners of Police, adding that the names would be made public shortly.
In addition to the changes at the senior command level, Leacock said a member of the Special Services Unit would be promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police.
“We are promoting a member who is well respected in the Special Services Unit to the position of a Superintendent of Police,” he said.
The minister further revealed that officers with expertise in regional security and cyber-related matters would also be promoted.
“We’re also promoting from within the ranks someone who has experience with what we call CARICOM impacts, cyber security issues, up to the position of inspector,” Leacock said.
He added that another sergeant described as “outstanding” would also be elevated to the rank of inspector.
Leacock said the restructuring effort would extend beyond senior leadership and address longstanding concerns surrounding promotions within the police force.
“Some of them have been long-standing and overlooked for promotion,” he stated. “We’re tightening up and cleaning up things.”
The Deputy Prime Minister did not provide a timeline for the implementation of the changes but indicated that announcements regarding the appointments would be made soon.
