Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines – Authorities have condemned a violent assault on a public official and her mother, describing the incident as unacceptable and deeply troubling.
Deputy Prime Minister St Clair Leacock said the attack on Nadia Slater was not reflective of the society Vincentians expect.
“No one really should be subjected to that kind of treatment,” he said.
The assault took place at Slater’s home in Clare Valley after she responded to a knock at the door and recognised the individual, who then attacked her.
Leacock said the assailant used both hands and objects, including a gas cylinder, to inflict injuries.
“A rational person doesn’t behave that way,” he said. Hestressed that the incident had no political motive and warned against speculation. “It doesn’t even come close to that,” he said. “So just stop it.” The minister added that citizens must feel safe in their homes and communities.
“People need to know that they can walk the streets and rest peacefully in the quiet of their homes,” he said.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as investigations continue.
