Former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has said supporting current Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Kishore Shallow was “my biggest mistake”, as he renewed criticism of the regional cricket administration.
According to a report published by the Jamaica Observer, Dr. Gonsalves said former CWI president Dave Cameron had governed regional cricket more effectively despite being a divisive figure during his tenure.
The former St Vincent and the Grenadines leader said he now regretted supporting Shallow’s rise within Cricket West Indies.
Shallow has served as president of CWI since March 2023 and previously served as vice-president from 2019 under then-president Ricky Skerritt after Cameron lost re-election.
Over the past two years, Dr. Gonsalves has repeatedly criticized Shallow and the CWI board over the performance and direction of West Indies cricket, particularly following the team’s heavy Test defeat to Australia last year.
According to the Jamaica Observer report, Gonsalves also argued that Shallow should have stepped aside from the CWI presidency immediately after winning a seat in St Vincent and the Grenadines’ 2025 general election and later being appointed Minister of Tourism.
The comments mark the latest public disagreement between the veteran Vincentian politician and the current CWI administration amid ongoing regional debate over the governance and performance of West Indies cricket.
