Kingstown St. Vincent May 11, 2026-Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has been selected to host the University of the West Indies Global Campus Guild’s Inter Campus Guild Council Conference for the first time, bringing together student leaders from across the Caribbean for discussions on education, regional development and youth leadership.
The conference has attracted a 25-member contingent of student representatives from territories across the region, marking what officials described as a significant milestone for St Vincent and the Grenadines within the regional tertiary education community.
Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday, who met with the visiting delegation, said the country was proud to welcome the student leaders to its shores.
“I had a very engaging discussion with student leaders from The University of the West Indies Global Campus and was especially pleased that St Vincent and the Grenadines was selected to host the Guild’s Inter Campus Guild Council Conference for the very first time,” Dr. Friday said.
The Prime Minister used the occasion to reaffirm his government’s commitment to making education more affordable and accessible to Vincentians, including mature students seeking opportunities to continue their studies.
According to Mr Friday, expanding access to higher education remains an important part of the country’s long-term development strategy.
He also said discussions with the student leaders extended beyond education and focused on wider regional and economic challenges facing Caribbean societies.
“We also had an honest conversation about the economy, regional challenges, and the importance of investing in people as our country’s greatest resource,” he said.
The University of the West Indies has long served as one of the Caribbean’s leading tertiary institutions, with its Global Campus providing online and blended learning opportunities to students throughout the region.
Dr. Friday was joined during the discussions by Senator Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble, Senator Kaschaka Cupid, Senator Lavern King and Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Desiree Millington.
