Kingstown St. Vincent May 22, 2026-A Vincentian diaspora organisation in Canada has donated EC$2,000 to support programmes at the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation, the contribution was made on May 15 by the SVG Association of Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.

The association was represented by Jim Lewis, a member of the Unity Picnic Committee, whose annual picnic is one of the organisation’s main fundraising activities.

Minister of The Family and Gender Affairs, Persons with Disabilities and Labour Ms. Lavern Gibson-Velox thanked members of the Vincentian diaspora for the donation and said the funds would help support programmes at the institution.

Part of the funding will also go towards agricultural initiatives at the centre, according to Extension Officer Isaac Haywood.

The Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre, located in the District Four West Agricultural Division, has been working with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Extension and Advisory Services on programmes aimed at strengthening food production and agricultural training.

Head of Extension and Advisory Services Marcus Richards said the ministry would continue collaborating with the institution, describing such programmes as important for young people.

He added that the ministry supports the philosophy of “Eat what you grow” and expressed hope that modern technology would be introduced into future agricultural programmes at the centre.

The Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre is one of the country’s rehabilitation and skills-training institutions for young males, with agriculture forming part of its development and vocational activities.
