Kingstown St. Vincent May 22,2026-Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was represented at the 79th World Health Organization World Health Assembly in Geneva this week, as countries gathered to discuss major global health challenges ranging from pandemic preparedness to health system reform.
The delegation from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was led by Health Minister Hon. Daniel Cummings and Chief Medical Officer Dr Simone Keizer Beache, who joined health officials and policymakers from WHO member states during the six-day meeting.
According to a statement on the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health and Energy social media page, the country’s participation reflected its commitment to strengthening healthcare systems, improving public health outcomes and advancing resilience through international cooperation.
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization and brings together delegations from member states each year to determine global health priorities and policies.
This year’s 79th Assembly, held from 18 to 23 May in Geneva, focused on themes including health financing, pandemic preparedness, climate-related health threats and strengthening public health systems.
WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told delegates that growing global crises, including disease outbreaks, economic pressures and climate change, had reinforced the need for stronger international collaboration in health.
Discussions during the Assembly also centred on long-term healthcare resilience and equitable access to healthcare resources, as countries continue to assess lessons learned from recent global health emergencies.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ participation comes as small island developing states continue to place increasing emphasis on health security, emergency preparedness and regional cooperation in responding to public health threats.
The government said the delegation’s involvement formed part of wider efforts to promote healthier communities and strengthen the country’s healthcare future through engagement with international partners.
