Kingstown St. Vincent May 26, 2026-On May 14 and 15, stakeholders from across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gathered for a Blue Economy Workshop aimed at advancing sustainable marine development and strengthening protection of the country’s ocean resources.
The workshop brought together representatives from government agencies, coastal communities, environmental organisations and the private sector to discuss locally driven solutions for sustainable growth within the marine economy.
Participants explored ways to expand sustainable ocean-based industries while protecting marine ecosystems that support livelihoods, food security and economic activity across the country.
Central to the discussions was the role of the Blue Economy Hub, an initiative designed to connect marine stakeholders with technical expertise, financial resources and investment opportunities.
Organisers said the Hub is intended to increase support for sustainable ocean-based activities throughout the Caribbean by encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship and regional collaboration.
The initiative also aims to strengthen coastal resilience and improve the long-term health of marine ecosystems, which remain critical to many Caribbean economies.
Officials involved in the discussions highlighted the importance of balancing economic development with environmental sustainability, particularly for small island developing states that are highly dependent on marine resources.
The workshop forms part of the wider Caribbean BluEFin Project, which focuses on strengthening sustainable financing and investment for marine conservation and blue economy initiatives across the region.
The project is financed by the Global Environment Facility and implemented through the United Nations Environment Programme.
It is executed by the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund with co-financing from the German Development Bank on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the French Development Agency, the French Facility for Global Environment and the German Corporation for International Cooperation.
Organisers said initiatives such as the workshop are intended to help Caribbean countries strengthen sustainable ocean industries while protecting the marine environments on which many communities depend.
