The Ashton Vipers of Union Island emerged champions of the Grenadines 3×3 Basketball Competition after defeating Bequia’s Court Kings in the championship game of a two-day tournament held at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Bequia.

The event, organised by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF) in collaboration with the Bequia Basketball Association (BBA), brought together teams from across the Grenadines for a showcase of one of basketball’s fastest-growing formats.

Eight teams participated in the competition, including representatives from Mayreau, Union Island and six teams from Bequia.

The tournament opened on Friday with round-robin action that saw teams battle for positions in the knockout stage. Competition intensified on Saturday as teams advanced through the quarterfinals and into the semifinals.

In the final four, Court Kings secured their place in the championship match after overcoming the Sonics, while the Ashton Vipers defeated the Blazin Ballers to set up a showdown between Bequia and Union Island.

The championship game lived up to expectations, with both teams producing an exciting contest before the Ashton Vipers secured the victory to claim the title.

The win continues an impressive run for the Union Island-based team, which also captured top honors at the Calliaqua 3×3 competition earlier this year.

SVGBF 3×3 Coordinator Wayne Williams and Bequia Basketball Association President Sabrina Mitchell praised the strong turnout and enthusiastic participation from players and supporters throughout the tournament.

Officials noted that while 3×3 basketball shares similarities with the traditional five-on-five version of the sport, its faster pace and condensed format require a unique set of skills and rapid decision-making from players.

The Basketball Federation said it remains committed to expanding 3×3 basketball throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines in keeping with international efforts by FIBA to grow the discipline, which is now recognized as the world’s leading urban team sport.

Plans are already underway for another competition in Bequia later this month, while organizers are also exploring the possibility of staging a Southern Grenadines tournament in the near future.

The Federation congratulated all participating teams and thanked the organizers, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the event.
