Students from across North Windward were given an opportunity to explore future career paths and engage directly with professionals from a wide range of industries during a Career Day Fair hosted by the George Stephens Secondary School (GSSS).
The event, held on June 5, formed part of the school’s ongoing activities marking its 20th anniversary and brought together students, educators, business leaders and representatives from both the public and private sectors.
Primary and secondary schools throughout the North Windward constituency joined the celebrations, creating what organizers described as a vibrant learning environment focused on career exploration and personal development.
Many of the professionals participating in the fair were former students of George Stephens Secondary School who returned to share their experiences and provide guidance to the next generation.
The event featured representatives from a variety of fields, including education, healthcare, law enforcement, finance, technology, hospitality, entrepreneurship and public service. Students were able to interact directly with professionals, ask questions and gain first-hand knowledge about career opportunities available to them.
Participants sought information on educational requirements, workplace expectations, career advancement opportunities and the skills needed to succeed in different professions.
Students described the experience as both informative and motivating, with many saying the event helped them develop a clearer understanding of potential career paths and the steps required to achieve their goals.
Representatives from participating organizations emphasized the importance of early career exploration and encouraged students to remain committed to their education, cultivate strong work ethics and embrace lifelong learning.
The fair also highlighted the value of partnerships between schools, businesses, government agencies and community organizations in preparing young people for future employment and supporting national development.
Principal Calvin Providence expressed appreciation to the organizations, professionals and former students who contributed to the success of the event.
He commended participants for their commitment to youth development and career education, noting that initiatives such as the Career Day Fair help equip students with the knowledge, confidence and inspiration needed to make informed decisions about their futures.
The Career Day Fair was one of several activities planned to commemorate the school’s 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of educational service and community impact in North Windward.
