BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley says Caribbean countries affected by crimes of native genocide and African enslavement are calling for more than an apology from some European states and commercial enterprises for their role in the Atlantic slave trade and the practice of chattel slavery. “I do not know how we can go further unless there is a reckoning first and foremost that places an apology and an acknowledgement that wrong was done, and that successive centuries saw the destruction of wealth and the destruction of people in a way that must never happen for any…

(AP) — More than 200 scientists have called for the World Health Organization and others to acknowledge that the coronavirus can spread in the air — a change that could alter some of the current measures being taken to stop the pandemic. In a letter published this week in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, two scientists from Australia and the US wrote that studies have shown “beyond any reasonable doubt that viruses are released during exhalation, talking and coughing in microdroplets small enough to remain aloft in the air.” That means people in certain indoor conditions could be at greater…

Members of the Auxiliary of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force are an important part of the service. However, the standards have dropped over the years and the organization is crying out to be returned to the position of respectability it once enjoyed. Michael Charles, former Commissioner of Police who now heads the Auxiliary Police Department, recalled that when he joined the Police Force in 1981, he was assigned with an auxiliary police officer. “This was the level of respect the Auxiliary had back in the day,” Charles said . In those days, the thing that distinguished…
