Concern has been expressed here about the levels of obesity which exists here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Israel Rios, of the Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO, raised the concern, as he delivered remarks at the opening of a workshop which was held to update the National Food-Based Dietary Guidelines. Mr. Rios said a greater efforts must be made to tackle issues that contribute to obesity.

A fire has broken out at the famous Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, firefighters say. The cause is not yet clear, but officials say it could be linked to renovation work. Images on social media show plumes of smoke billowing into the air above the the 850-year-old Gothic building. Last year, the Catholic Church in France launched an urgent appeal for funds to save the cathedral, which was starting to crumble. A major operation is under way to tackle the blaze, which broke out on Monday afternoon, and an area surrounding the building in central Paris has been cleared, officials said.

Police on the island of Canouan responded to a report of a mentally ill man attacking residents on the island. The man attacked the police with a cutlass and a knife. He was shot and taken to the Canouan Health Center where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment will hold an official opening ceremony for the Polyclinic which was constructed by Franco Construction Limited at a cost of 4.4 million EC dollars. It was constructed under the Modernization of the Health Sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines Project.
