The Toastmasters of St. Vincent and the Grenadines have been commended for by Minister of Education, St. Clair Prince for hosting the first ever National Corporate Public Speaking Championship. Five individuals participated in the Finals of the Championship at the Girl Guides Headquarters on Saturday. Trackeisha Davis of the Argyle International Airport was adjudged overall Winner; Cavell King Jr. and Iyande Bramble from Massy Stores, placed second and third respectively. A police officer was charged today with the theft of a Samsung Galaxy J5 valued at XCD$500. On Friday April 5th, PC 59 Pablo Adams allegedly stole the phone from an employee of the Inland Revenue Department while conducting personal business there. The employee left her phone unattended and realised that it went missing upon her return. The Police Officer denied removing the phone at the time but later handed it over to the police. Minister of Finance, Camillo Gonsalves is appealing to local Fisher Folk to start preparing themselves to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities which will be made available for them when, Rainforest Sea Foods begins operations at Calliaqua. Concern has been expressed here about the levels of obesity which exists here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Israel Rios, of the Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO, raised the concern, as he delivered remarks at the opening of a workshop which was held to update the National Food-Based Dietary Guidelines. Mr. Rios said a greater efforts must be made to tackle issues that contribute to obesity.

A fire has broken out at the famous Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, firefighters say. The cause is not yet clear, but officials say it could be linked to renovation work. Images on social media show plumes of smoke billowing into the air above the the 850-year-old Gothic building. Last year, the Catholic Church in France launched an urgent appeal for funds to save the cathedral, which was starting to crumble. A major operation is under way to tackle the blaze, which broke out on Monday afternoon, and an area surrounding the building in central Paris has been cleared, officials said.
